Answering the Skeptic
Psalms 119:41-42 “Let thy mercies come also unto me, O Lord, even thy salvation, according to thy word. So shall I have wherewith to answer him that reproacheth me.”
In the Bible I have something with which I may reply to anyone who challenges my faith. The best answer that can be given to those who ridicule our faith will be found in the very words of Scripture. A man of little learning, except that which he has derived from the Bible, can silence the reproaches of the learned skeptic. A man of simple-hearted, pure faith, with no weapon but the Word of God, is better armed than if he had all the arguments of the schools at his command.
In verse 43 when he says; And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth; is a prayer that the word of truth and that only would be that which comes out of his mouth.
Too often we want to challenge the world’s wisdom with the wisdom of the world. Remember what God says: the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. I Corinthians 1:25
Study God’s Word deeply and regularly and you will always be able to answer the critic and be a peace in our heart when we are mocked for our faith.
