Today From Psalms
Psalm 101 is a psalm of David and it expresses the intent of his heart and the heart of any person who longs to walk with God. In our English Bible the desire of David begins with “I will….” Each one speaks great truths to us and should be the enduring goal of our life.
After stating his intention of singing and praising the Lord (verse 1) David says: “I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way.” (verse 2) This phrase is one word in the Hebrew and would correspond to Ephesians 5:15 and Colossians 4:5.
“See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,”
“Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.”
The idea of walking circumspectly means that I consider all the circumstances and the possible consequences of my actions. How often do we deal with adverse consequences because we acted hastily, in anger or based on wrong advice?
To act circumspectly means to consider all that the Bible says regarding the situation at hand. It means to consider how this action will affect my testimony for Christ. It means that I give thought to how my action will affect a fellow believer.
A good way to begin each day is with this prayer: “Lord, help me to behave myself wisely.”
