Today From Psalms
Hope and Comfort
Hope! What an amazing thought! What an absolute need! We all want
and need hope. Hope for us comes from the Word of God. “Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope.” Psalms 119:49
As I study God’s Word and commit it to my memory and heart, I will find it a great source of unfailing comfort. I am comforted by God’s Word in times of affliction. Affliction is a reality we all face and therefore we all need comfort at various times. “This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me.” (Verse 50)
God’s Word comforts me when I face the reproach from anyone around me. “The proud have had me greatly in derision: yet have I not declined from thy law. I remembered thy judgments of old, O Lord; and have comforted myself.” (Verses 50-51) The “proud” is anyone who presumes upon us as well as those who are just arrogant. We all have been exposed to people who presume upon us for selfish or other reasons. But we find comfort in God’s Word and do not depart from God’s law. The comfort we find enables us to react and relate in a God honoring way.
As we journey through this world of wickedness, God’s Word continues to be our hope and comfort. “Thy statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage.” (Verse 54)
As much as there is hope and comfort in God’s Word, if I do not know it, it will not be my hope and comfort. How needful it is that we daily take in generous portions of God’s Word to help us.
