Today From Psalms
Trust the Lord
Psalm 115:4-5 reveals the foolishness of worshipping idols that have been fashioned by the hand of man. Yet as foolish as it is, the world goes on worshipping the “creature more than the Creator.”
We may self-righteously say: “I don’t worship idols.” With that statement they come back and ask; “Where is now their God?”
Why is this always their comeback? Is it simply because the God of the Bible is invisible? That might be so in part, but the greater reason is found in verses 9-11. “O Israel, trust thou in the Lord: he is their help and their shield. O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord: he is their help and their shield. Ye that fear the Lord, trust in the Lord: he is their help and their shield.” Three times we are told to “trust in the Lord.” There must be some connection with the issue of trust in our lives and the world’s failure to know that the God we worship is real.
The world becomes aware of the reality of God when they see God’s people living daily by faith. We seem to embrace faith when times are good but when life is a struggle we also struggle not trusting in the Lord. The world takes note of this and dismisses our faith. The genuineness of our faith is seen in its effectiveness in our life in all circumstances.
Three times we read “trust in the Lord: he is their help and their shield.” God will always be our help in all things and always be our protection. Therefore, let us silence, “Where is now their God?” with a life of continual faith.
