A Reason For His Death

When we think about why Christ died on the cross, not only is it our most common thought but also almost our only thought is that He did so for our sins; in that He paid the penalty of death for our sins. But, with a simple study of God’s Word, we find that there are actually several reasons for His death on the cross. One of those reasons is revealed to us in 2 Corinthians.

And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. 2 Cor. 5:15

It begins by stating the fact that Christ died for all people. His death paid the price for every sin of every person that will ever live. But then it goes on to give us one of the reasons for Him dying. That reason being so that those that live (which I believe refers to those that have received eternal life), should not live for themselves. This is what I feel the majority of people (Christians included) are doing…living for themselves. Almost all their time and effort is for something for themselves, including their families.

But it is saying that Christ died so that they no longer do that, but that instead they live for Him since He gave His life for them. Since Christ died in my place so that I don’t have to suffer death, I should desire to live for Him now and give Him myself, my time, my efforts.

So, the question is, who are you living for?
