When Do You Sing?

God revealed His tremendous power to the Egyptians as well as to the Hebrews through plages against the Egyptians and by then liberating the Hebrew people from over 400 years of slavery. In a great way, God showed the Hebrews that He was their God and that He would do great things for them. When they left Egypt as a free people, God used His presence in a cloud during the day and a fire during the night to lead them to exactly where He wanted them to be. Which eventually was to a place that appeared to have no escape. With an “uncrossable” sea in front of them and the Egyptian army behind them, they began to murmur, to complain about the situation that they were in even though it was God that lead them to it.

God performed an incredible miracle in holding the army back, dividing the sea, allowing His people to cross on dry land through the middle of the sea, and then finally releasing the army and drowning them in the sea. Once again, saving His people. Ex. 15:1 says: “Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the LORD…” Once they had been saved, THEN they sang. Ps. 34:1 “I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.”

To bless, to glorify, to magnify the Lord AT ALL TIMES, would include during the hard and trying times as well. So, I ask you…when do you sing? Only when you have been blessed? Or, also in the middle of difficult times? Do you sing on BOTH sides of the sea?
