Genesis 18:22-23 Abraham stood yet before the LORD. And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?
Judgment had been determined on Sodom, but Abraham prayed. In answer to the prayer of Abraham God said, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.”
I do not know what percentage 50 was of the overall population but God heard Abraham even when he said, “Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake.”
Our country has so turned from God that I cannot but feel that all we are seeing is either the beginning of God’s judgment or a serious warning to us.
The wickedness of Sodom was great, yet God was inclined to hold back judgment for as few as ten righteous people.
Surely there are more than ten or fifty righteous people in America. The real question is, will we pray. We can complain. We can criticize. We can cry “unfair.” We could join a protest and make noise and even become destructive. But will we pray?
Nothing can affect change like God’s people on their knees crying out to the Almighty God.
We hear what is recorded in II Chronicles 7:14 often but are we taking it seriously? “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” If we believe in the Word of God, let us practice what we believe. It is time for us to go to God acknowledging our own sin first then interceding on the behalf of our nation. God is a merciful and longsuffering God and God will keep His promises.
